Chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its modernist architecture, Brasília is the capital of Brazil. The city was planned and developed by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer in 1956 in order to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location. The landscape architecture was designed by Roberto Burle Marx.
As a venue for music performances and movie festivals, Brasília is a cosmopolitan city, with 124 embassies, a wide range of international and local restaurants, malls, theaters and a complete infrastructure ready to host any kind of event. Not surprisingly, the city stands out as an important business/tourism destination.
Brasilia international airport Juscelino Kubitschek receives direct flights from Lisbon (TAP), Paris (AirFrance), Atlanta (Delta Air lines) and Miami (American Airlines). Further, there are international flights running in a daily basis from all over the world to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. These cities are connected to Brasília through direct domestic flights, offered nearly every hour. The main airlines operating in Brazil are: TAM, GOL, Azul and Avianca.
